LinkWithin Widget: Reduce Bounce Rate and Show Related Articles on Your Blog (Review)
“Bounce Rate” is the evil that can scare the life out of any blogger who intends to maximize blog traffic. Bounce Rate describes the percentage of blog/web site visitors who arrive at a blog/web site entry page, then leave without going any deeper into the site. It essentially represents the percentage of initial visitors to a site who “bounce” away to a different site, rather than continue on to other pages within the same site.
Wikipedia uses this formula to calculate bounce rate: Bounce Rate = Total Number of Visits Viewing One Page / Total Number of Visits
As you can see, no blogger would ever want to have a higher bounce rate. But unfortunately, for most new bloggers fighting with high Bounce Rate becomes a tough challenge. If you are one such blogger trying to figure out a way to reduce the bounce rate for your blog, here is good news. Here is a pretty simple widget called LinkWithin to make life easier for you.
LinkWithin is an easy to install widget that automatically links to related articles (blog posts) from your archive. It sits neatly under each post on your blog, blending in with either light or dark color schemes with it’s clean and simple design. The widget content is dynamic, featuring upto five related post title links with eye-catching thumbnail images. Most striking aspect of the widget is that LinkWithin searches your blog’s entire archive, introducing readers to the depth of your indexed blog entries. This is especially helpful to new readers searching for a particular topic, obviously, but it also engages your loyal long time readers, inviting them to rediscover older offerings they may have missed-out or forgotten.
There are many more similar “Related Posts Plugin” available. But unlike similar plugins, LinkWithin doesn’t just display a list of headlines underneath each post, but also a thumbnail with a picture from each post, which makes it far more attractive than most of its competitors.
Moreover, LinkWithin plugin is available for WordPress, Typepad, and Blogger and it also provides you with a code snippet that you can use on other blogging platforms. In trying out LinkWithin on this WordPress blog (TechChunks.com), the suggested posts were always spot-on; so spot on that we decided to remove the earlier “Yet Another Related Posts Plugin” altogether.
On the flip side, it would be great if you could actually customize how the related items are displayed on your blog. And it would also be great if it gave the user some idea on the algorithm that they use to decide a set of related posts to display.
But that doesn’t take away any credit from this super-cool plugin and if you are looking for a different way to showcase more of your blog posts on your blog, LinkWithin is definitely worth a try.
How to setup LinkWithin:
Thankfully, the LinkWithin plugin is very easy to use and install. To do so, just visit linkwithin home page, enter your blog URL, select platform, download and install the plugin. That’s it 🙂
What are you waiting for then? Give it a try and see if it helps you to reduce bounce rate of your blog. If you have already tried LinkWithin, let us hear how it helped/not helped you in reducing bounce rate.

Well, I don’t seem to find it anywhere on your blog! Which blog did you mean, by the way?
Thanks to the generous support.I think it’s absolutely fantastic, and it’s so lucky for me to find this blog!
Love it! For some reason when I try and make it with five posts, I’m just getting text links, though…
Still – awesome, thanks for the info!

May be your current theme width is not wide enough to incorporate 5 links at a time. Try making the post layout a bit wider and lets see if 5 links work! 🙂
Hey, thanks for the reply and help! I’ll try your suggestion ASAP!
I do have to say, I am TOTALLY impressed with this plugin. It is working FAR better than I thought it would, even just being plain text. People are clicking on the suggested articles a LOT!
Just another reason Techchunks rocks – thanks, bud!

Glad to be of help. You’re welcome 🙂
Regarding LinkWithin plugin – another thing that I like in it is its ability to pull up really *RELATED* posts and the way it rotates them every time a particular page is loads. That way, the visitors get to see different set of 5 posts that are still similar to the one that they are reading. Of course, you will need some number of posts in your blog before it starts working at its best efficiency. All the best and keep visiting us. 🙂
Oh, I’ll definitely be here and active! Thanks so much for everything!

I am trying to install linkwithin, it keeps giving me an error:
Proxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request POST /learn.
Reason: Error reading from remote server
How could I solve this?

I know this is an old post, but I’m totally desperate and hope you can help.
I’ve tried to add LinkWithin to my blog several times. The widget shows up saying I’ve installed it, but no related posts show up. I sent the LinkWithin people several emails asking for help on what was preventing it from being added, but I got no response. I finally added another HTML for related posts, but I really don’t like it as well (e.g., the last several posts it hasn’t been grabbing all the available related posts). Have you heard of people having this issue? Do you have any idea what could be keeping it from working?
Any help you can give me would be appreciated — I was doing pretty well with getting people to click on 2 or 3 other posts and now not so much.
If you can let me know on which particular site you are having this LinkedWithin issue, may be I will take a look.
I’m sorry, I thought I put my blog into my info. I really appreciate your willingness to look at it. It is on my entire blog: http://www.livingabigstory.blogspot.com. You’ll notice that right under the post the LinkWithin widget is set up, but no actual related posts are there.
(So I put in a different one “Related Posts” that is now not effectively pulling related posts.)
I took a quick look at it and I suspect the ineffectiveness in pulling out relative posts by your current plugin is mostly because you have a personal blog and the articles are spread across a wide range of topics.
AT any rate, please give LinkedWithin a go and let me know so that I can take a look at the code when the plugin is live!
Hi, I’m having the same issue as Laura. I have recently gone self-hosted and imported all my posts. Link within is installed but not showing any posts.
Mine is also a personal blog, but I join in with weekly themes that are always tagged the same so I would have thought it would pick these up, also my recipes.
